Despite the content of this blog, I’m not always toiling away in the garden and the kitchen. Last night was the much-anticipated Spice party, hosted by Orr Shtuhl (Washington City Paper’s Beerspotter) and DJed by Sean P of Fatback. Orr took a night off from beer and created an intriguing slate of spice-infused cocktails, such as the ‘Salma Hayek’ (Chili-infused tequila, apple cider, ginger ale) and the ‘Yes Honey’ (Apricot-infused vodka, allspice dram, honey lemonade). With Sean P spinning the best of Motown, we grooved the night away.
And check out this Washingtonian writeup of Orr’s drink menu, with particular focus on that intriguing Phillips cocktail. The process for making the paprika-infused vodka is simple, but unexpected (it involves a water bath and a ziploc bag – sous vide, but with alcohol). And they helpfully posted a Youtube how-to for the cocktail itself.
