For months now I’ve meaning to attend one of the mushroom hunting forays led by the Mycological Association of Washington, but logistics always got in the way. But finally, yesterday, I was free on the foray date AND the foray was accessible by public transportation (took an hour to get there, but we car-less urbanites can’t be complainers). Although this is not really the season for edible mushrooms, the foray was a lot of fun to attend. Mushroom Expert Mitch Fournet led the expedition and gamely identified almost all of the strange and diverse fungi people found along the trail. As with blackberry picking, I found that as the hunt went on my eyes and brain got better attuned, and it became much easier to spot the mushrooms. Here are some photos of the fungi I found.
