There’s a hint of fall in the air, and it feels fantastic. But along with the reduction in humidity, there’s a reduction in the hours of daylight available for gardening. I sometimes go out to my garden plot after work, but now by the time I get out there the sun is already low on the horizon. A few days ago I went out there to sow some seeds for fall, and ended up scrambling around in the dark to get water on all the newly planted seeds.
Gardens are exciting at night. Lots of critters making noise. And the cool night air was delicious after a summer of oppressive heat. Except for, you know, the lack of light, the conditions were ideal for gardening. I’m tempted to buy one of those miner-style head lamps so I can stay out in my garden late.
