When I was out at my garden on Saturday, I looked up from my weeding and there were two young deer just on the other side of the fence, munching the foliage. They were so cute! And their mother was hanging out nearby. A very photogenic trio. They were especially interested in the leaves and vegetables and trimmings that people had put on the compost pile. I know I’m supposed to think of the deer as pests, but they were too lovely to shoo away.

Wonderful photos, how can anyone think of Deer as pests? Hmmm when they’re eating your plants and damaging things no doubt…
I love my Fox visitors, but I do get very annoyed when they’ve caused yet more damage to the plants/garden!
oh dear. all i can think about is them in the middle of the street. oh dear. oh dear. oh deer.
A friend of mine calls them “rodents with hooves,” but they ARE adorable, if not in the act of eating your prize garden items.
Ah, don’t worry, Mary. I’ve heard the DC park system is suffering from deer overpopulation. So I think they’ve learned how to avoid cars. Very crafty.
Unfortunately they do get hit by cars quite frequently out here in the suburbs. Hardly a day goes by when I don’t see at least two of them lying in the gutter.
I enjoy seeing them in my backyard too, although I know that it’s due to overpopulation that they are there. They are VERY photogenic! Those are some beautiful shots.
I wouldn’t have shooed them away either – they’re so cute! But, then, if I were a gardener I might feel differently.
