Though there’s still plenty of summer produce at the markets, little hints of autumn have started to pop up. At some point in the cold months I will get tired of winter squash and apple cider, but right now they are special.
Winter squashes, as pretty as they are tasty.
I love apple cider. I'm also very much looking forward to the arrival of pear cider.
Someone was selling chestnuts at the U Street market. I'm not sure why nobody at the Dupont market sells nuts. I recall someone selling black walnuts at the Foggy Bottom market, but never at Dupont.
You can tell it's late in the season when the zucchini are all bloated and big.
I got a couple of these pears, which had that perfect melt-in-your-mouth juicy texture.
And in other signs of autumn, Octoberfest is coming up on the horizon. I’ve already mentioned that the next DC Food Blogger Happy Hour will be beer-themed. That event is on October 7 at CommonWealth.
